Buddha in Kapilavastu

Title: Buddha
Size: 30x45 inches
Medium: Oil on canvas
Year: 2015
Price: Price on Request

The scene From Ajanta cave depicts Buddha’s return to his birth-place Kapilavastu after his Enlightenment, when his wife Yasodhara and son Rahula meet him at the palace-gate. Rahula looks up adoringly at his father and Yashodhara has bedecked herself profusely with jewellery to induce her husband to stay with her.
Yashodhara has tutored the child to ask Him for his rightful inheritance, being born the son of a prince, but the Buddha says he has only his begging bowl to offer, Buddha gives Rahula his begging-bowl and admits him to the Order.
Owing to his spiritual importance, the Buddha is depicted here as a much larger figure, towering over Yashodhara and Rahula.
